Experts: Online payments winning popularity among Russians
MOSCOW, Mar 23 (PRIME) -- Russians use electronic payments more actively despite the economic crisis, and the e-commerce market will continue growing in 2016, according to a joint research conducted by PayPal and agency Data Insight, seen by PRIME late Tuesday.
“In comparison to the last year’s poll, the share of respondents using online payments rose 20% on the whole. For a second year in a row, the fastest growth rates have been shown by the segment of online payments via e-wallets: the number of users of this means of payment climbed 42% over the last 12 months,” the researchers said.
Data Insight conducted the poll on PayPal’s request on February 4–10 among 4,100 aged 18–64, residing in all types of towns and cities across the country.
The poll proved that 75% of respondents purchased goods and services online at least once as compared to 63% a year earlier, and 69% remitted money online at least once as compared to 49% a year earlier.
“Positive dynamics are evident in the segment of inter-Russian Internet trade, where the highest growth is seen in such categories as books and disks, where the share on online purchases went up to 50% from 34%, and electronics and appliances with growth to 46% from 36%,” the research read.
The main reason behind the increasing popularity of the Internet for purchases and search of information about goods and stores is comfort and time-effectiveness.
